Excel 2007 Practice Exam

Yesterday we took a practice exam. Usually whenever we work on anything in Excel, the steps aren't too difficult, however, I saw a few things I wasn't familiar with. I had never used a Text Function in this program before so I really had to wing it. I remember specifically the question asked to use the lowercase function, and miraculously I found it.

Excel Review

1. The simplest way to enter data in a worksheet is to click the cell in which you want to enter data and type.

2. The purpose of AutoFill and FillSeries is to enter patterns of data or a series of data by more quickly and efficiently.

3. When using AutoFill, there are four options that appear:

Summary: Correcting & Expanding Upon Worksheet Data

Checking for errors is always a great idea. Checking for corrections in formulas or numeric values should always seem obvious, but Excel has a Spelling Checker feature. This feature highlights possibly-misspelled words and gives a lists correctly spelled words. There is also a translation, and a thesaurus feature.

Summary: Finding and Replacing Data

Some worksheets in Excel contain very little data in which it is very easy to find mistakes and correct them. However, worksheets contain billions of cells. When there is a ton of information in a worksheet it becomes difficult to find certain data among a pile of data. Learning to use the Find & Replace feature is very important as it may save one a whole lot of time and frustration.

Summary: Entering and Revising

The easiest way to insert data is to select a cell and type a value. However, this method may only be effective when entering small pieces of info. However I prefer the AutoFill, and FillSeries features. It is a quick and efficient way to enter data which in other cases is just boring. In my opinion, simple little things like that make a huge difference

Current Event 2

Despite the negative feedback from the citizens who attended President Calderon's speech, Mayor Cook says Mexico's Cabinet was a good start and the President was honest about the problems facing Juarez.
I don't know if anybody really knows what the solution is," said Cook. Maybe it's true. some people, including myself, are rather quick to judge the government's faults instead of noticing what is being done about the problem. All that can we can do right now is watch and ultimately show support.

Current Event 1

In the newspaper on Friday, February 12, 2010, the headline was about the public address made by President Calderon (Mexico). In this address he stated that his administration was doing as much as possible to crack down on government corruption, and organized crime. However, the citizens of Juarez did not buy it. Relatives of massacre victims demand the President's resignation.
In my opinion, Mexico's war on drugs will not successfully come to a halt unless the United States military steps in to help. Until then, the corruption in the government is overwhelming any effort the government is putting forth to stop the violence.

Apple Unveils the iPad

Apple recently released their newest gadget called the "iPad." It is a tablet that can run more than 140,000 apps that were made so popular by the iPhone. However, the device seems rather pointless to me. Pretty neat. But rather unnecessary. I don't completely understand what the use of it is which could be the reason for the lack of my interest. No disrespect to Apple, or the engineers who developed this modern marvel, but I would just rather have an iPhone.
